A phone call from Keith this morning indicates his belief that he is being illegally held, since an evidentiary hearing must by Canadian law be held 48 hours after arrest. It will be 48 hours in another couple of hours, and no hearing has been scheduled for today. I don't know if a hearing has been scheduled at all. As it turns out, due to a technicality, Keith has not even been formally convicted of crime, since the judgment has not yet been "handed down." The $cientologists are also trying to cancel his Rule 60b appeal of the original (1997) copyright case due to their claim that he is a fugitive. Keith is unable to wear his contact lenses because he has been denied the use of eye drops to rewet his lenses and his eyes, without which he suffers from dry eyes. Like many contact-lens wearers (such as I), he cannot use glasses to correct his condition since the lenses change the shape of his eyes so drastically that no examination produces a correct prescription. Therefore, he is handicapped by poor sight among the various terrorists with whom he now keeps company. He does not even have contact lens supplies and, since he is in a maximum-security facility, cannot have any visits except from his attorney. I will try to get his optometrist to call, and then have a friend deliver contact-lens supplies. Arel
